The household auto program produces the most service calls of any line in the firm. It also generates the most consequential coverage decisions in a private-client program — because most household liability exposure runs through the auto policy and the personal-umbrella tower that sits above it.
The Newport office runs the marine practice — Helena Burroughs, CPCU, a former Travelers Yacht underwriter, leads it. The Greenwich office coordinates the auto, collector, and personal-excess work; aviation we handle through a long-standing specialty referral partner.
We write these programs across the same private-client carriers that write the property programs — Chubb, PURE, AIG Private Client, Berkley One, Vault — and use Hagerty for collector vehicles where the use pattern is exhibition or restoration rather than daily driving.
What we typically write
- Personal Auto
- Including teen drivers, multiple-state titling, vintage daily-drivers used outside the agreed-value market, and the standard underlying coverage for the personal-umbrella tower.
- Collector & Classic Vehicles
- Agreed-value, exhibition use, restoration-in-progress, transit, and event coverage. Placed through Chubb Cornerstone or Hagerty depending on use pattern.
- Watercraft
- Sail and power, U.S. and international waters, hurricane haul-out endorsements for moored vessels, charter-out and bareboat-charter exposure for owners who occasionally charter their vessels.
- Aviation
- Private aircraft — both fixed-wing and rotorcraft. Placed through a specialty referral partner with co-coordination from Helena Burroughs.
- Personal Excess Liability (Umbrella)
- Limits to $50M, worldwide coverage, defense outside the limit, follow-form UM/UIM where available. Chubb, PURE, AIG Private Client, RLI, and Berkley One are our primary excess markets.
- Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist
- Coordinated with the umbrella for non-standard households. The most common gap we surface in auto reviews: UM/UIM limits matching only the underlying auto BI limit, not the umbrella above.
Most umbrella policies sold in the standard market top out at five million. Our private-client households typically carry between ten and thirty million in personal excess, structured to coordinate with the household's auto, watercraft, and home-liability towers.
Carriers we use for auto and marine
Chubb
Chubb Masterpiece auto and umbrella; Chubb Yacht for vessels under 100 feet. The most-used market for households whose program lives across auto, home, fine-art, and umbrella with a single carrier.
AIG Private Client Group
Strong appetite for international and multi-jurisdiction households. Helena Burroughs has handled several AIG yacht placements for Block Island and Edgartown clients.
PURE
Member-owned reciprocal. Personal-excess limits to $50M for member households; competitive on collector vehicles where the use pattern is mixed (some exhibition, some occasional daily).
Hagerty
The collector-vehicle specialist. For exhibition-only, restoration-in-progress, and event-only use, Hagerty is the firm's most-used market. Coordinated with the primary auto placement to avoid double-coverage on a daily-driver.
